Charles Robert Darwin was born in 1809 in a wealthy family. He was dropped out of medical school in 1825 and he entered University of Cambridge in preperation for becomming a clergy man of the church of England. It was here that two persons Adam Sedwick and John Stevens Henslow taught him to be a keen observer of natural phenomenon and collector of specimens.
Darwin worked as a naturalist abroad HMS Beagle and this gave him the opportunity to observe different continents and islands along the way.It was the time when most geologists stuck to the theory of catastrophies and they believe there is a succession of creation of plants and animals and they are destroyed by catastrophies.According to this theory Noah's flood wiped away all life forms except those in the ark and the rest were visible only in the form of fossils.According to this view species were individually created and are immutable, ie unchangeable for all time.
Darwins observations made of the flora and fauna of South America formed the basis of his work on animal variation theory of natural selection and laws of variation. Thus The Origin of Species is one of the most influential book which created a lot of fuzz among the scientists and the common man.The book 'On The Origin Of Species by Means of Natural Selection' was published on 24 november 1858.Now the evolutionary theory has undergone many refinements. The most important thing is that the origin of species has come out with a new field of natural science.Darwins contribution will never be forgotten .The legendary naturalist passed away on 1882.
